Esther & Warren

We cycled around the world for four years and ended up here in Galloway, one of the least populated and beautiful parts of Scotland. Gravel is the intersection of our passions for bikes, maps, bushcraft, wildlife and landscape. It is our happy place and playground. We have spent the last 4 years exploring the bits that lie just outside our road cycling adventures. We are well known for creating award winning, 5 star on-road adventures in Dumfries & Galloway.

Now we want to show you the paths less pedalled.

What People Are Saying

“Perfect!
I’ve done lots of road riding/touring and some mountain biking, but had never ridden a gravel bike and wanted to try one out to see if it might be the thing for me. Esther and Warren not only were set-up to rent me a gravel bike for the day, but Warren was available to accompany me on the tracks and trails through the Galloway Forest Park, which is very close to their home base. “Warren set out a brilliant route for us, and was a huge help with advice, equipment and cups of tea! We had a great couple of days bikepacking in amazing weather.”

— Neil, Google Review

“My husband and me rented a gravel bike, it was really nice bike, and they support us a lot. Also my husband did a gravel route with them. The experience was great and unforgettable. Esther and her husband love bikes and they really know the Galloway area, I full recommend them.”

We are here!

#ScotlandStartsHere - in the south of Scotland, with the border to England and Ireland.

Galloway feels like stepping back 20 years in a little over 1 hour from either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

There is a fast transatlantic connection through Manchester and a ferry to Europe (Newcastle) and Ireland (Cairnryan)

Train

Dumfries and Lockerbie railway stations are closest. Dumfries is 30 minutes away and is on the line between Glasgow and Carlisle. Lockerbie is 45 mins away and on the main west coast UK line between London Euston and Edinburgh and linked direct with Manchester airport. Lockerbie is 1 hour from Edinburgh by train and a popular option to reach us.

The train journey from London to Lockerbie takes about 4.5 hours only.

We are able to arrange pick you up at the railway station and transfer to your accommodation.

Car

The main A75 road runs through the region. We are the first place in Scotland as you drive from the north of England, up the M6 and turn left just over the border. From Glasgow or Edinburgh we are a scenic 2 hour drive.

Air

Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle airports are around a 2 hour drive and connect well with europe. We suggest after arrival at these airports, take the regular airport bus to the city centre - under 30 minutes - and take a train to either Lockerbie or Dumfries from where we can pick you up. For Trans Atlantic flights, the best airport is Manchester from where a train brings you directly to Lockerbie.

Sea

The ferry port of Cairnryan in the west of our region is just over an hour from Castle Douglas. The regular ferries sail from and to Belfast and Larne in N. Ireland. You can also arrive at the ferry port in Newcastle or further south to connect with most countries in Europe.

Coach/ Bus

There are some bus options that allow up to two bikes, as long as they have sort of bags covering the wheels (e.g bin liners). Stagecoach X75 Service from Glasgow to Dumfries, and Stagecoach X500 Service between Stranraer and Dumfries. Latter option stops at a number of towns we use as bases in Dumfries and Galloway.

A return bus ticket is valid for 28 days and great value.

Unfortunately the route between Edinburgh and Dumfries does not allow bikes at this moment.
